Why Fedar Outperforms Every Other DTF System on the Market
Before Fedar built a single DTF printer, they spent years building some of the most demanding industrial dye sublimation systems in the world. High-volume. High-uptime. No room for shortcuts. That background is exactly why their entry into the Direct to Film market looked different from everyone else's.
While the DTF market was flooding with mass-produced machines built to a price, Fedar was watching and taking notes. They studied every common failure point, every corner being cut, and every shop owner stuck with a machine that looked good on paper but couldn't hold up in production. At the same time, premium Japanese-engineered systems were raising the bar on build quality, but at price tags well out of reach for most print shops.
So Fedar built something that sits squarely in the middle: industrial-grade construction and Japanese and German motion components, at a price point that actually makes sense for a growing print business. It is also why Impact-USA, with over a decade of experience supporting industrial print operations across North America, chose Fedar as our flagship DTF line. Add in Impact-USA Concierge Support and you have a system built to run, with a team behind it built to keep it that way.

01 | The Frame: Where Industrial Grade Starts
Square Steel, Not Aluminum Extrusion
Fedar's FD70 and FD1808 frames are welded from heavy-gauge square steel, the same structural approach used in industrial CNC machines and manufacturing equipment.
Why does that matter to you? A rigid, heavy frame doesn't flex or vibrate at production speeds. Flex and vibration are the enemy of print quality. They cause banding, misregistration, and inconsistent ink placement. Budget machines and many mid-tier systems use lighter aluminum extrusion frames that cost less to manufacture but introduce instability under continuous load.
Fedar's industrial frame also means longevity. A machine that doesn't rack or twist under its own weight will hold its calibration significantly longer, reducing maintenance intervals and keeping you in production.
The steel frame is the foundation that makes every other component work as intended. You cannot compensate for a weak chassis with better electronics or a premium printhead.

02 | Japanese & German Components: The Real Differentiator
Fedar sources four key motion and mechanical components from Japanese and German manufacturers, the same suppliers used in aerospace, medical devices, and precision industrial machinery. No other Chinese DTF manufacturer does this as standard across their production line.
Component | Origin | Brand | Why it Matters |
Linear Guide Rails | Japan | THK | World-standard precision rails used in aerospace, robotics, and industrial machinery. Guarantees micron-level carriage accuracy for sharp, consistent prints. |
Bearings | Japan | NSK | NSK bearings are trusted in medical devices, high-speed machine tools, and semiconductor equipment. Dramatically extends mechanical lifespan under continuous production loads. |
Ink Chain (Energy Chain) | Germany | IGUS | Protects and guides ink lines during highspeed carriage movement. IGUS is the global leader in polymer energy chains, trusted in everything from Formula 1 to factory automation. |
Servo Motor | Global/Industrial | LEADSHINE | Precision servo motors ensure accurate media feed and carriage control, reducing banding and registration errors compared to stepper motors used in lower-cost systems. |
Printheads | Japan | Epson I3200- A1 | Genuine Epson industrial printhead with proven longevity, industry-wide service availability, and Variable Sized Droplet Technology for exceptional color gradation and precision ink placement. |
What This Looks Like in Practice
THK rails vs. generic rails: THK rails are specified to tolerances measured in microns. Over time, generic rails develop play in the carriage bearing blocks, causing printhead drift and print quality degradation. THK rails maintain their specification far longer under continuous use.
NSK bearings vs. commodity bearings: Bearing failure is a common cause of unexpected downtime in cheaper machines. NSK bearings used in industrial applications are rated for dramatically longer service lives under load.
IGUS ink chain vs. generic carriers: The ink chain flexes thousands of times per day. Inferior chains crack, bind, or wear through ink lines, causing leaks, air ingestion, and printhead damage. IGUS chains are engineered for exactly this kind of repetitive flexion cycle.

03 | Side-by-Side: What Sets Fedar Apart
Whether you are looking at consumer-grade machines built to a price, or premium Japaneseengineered systems built to a budget-busting price tag, Fedar sits in a class of its own. The differences below reflect build quality, component sourcing, and support infrastructure. These are the factors that separate a machine that runs your business from one that runs you ragged.
Category | Fedar (FD70/FD1808) | The rest of the DTF Market
Frame Construction | Heavy-gauge square steel, welded industrial frame | Lighter aluminum extrusion or thin steel
Linear Guide Rails | Japanese THK precision rails | Generic Chinese-sourced rails or none
Bearings | Japanese NSK industrial bearings | Commodity bearings, brand unspecified
Ink Chain | German IGUS energy chain | Generic plastic cable carriers
Servo Motor | LEADSHINE precision servo | Often stepper motors on lowercost builds
Print Platform | Honeycomb alloy, hardoxidized, ±7.5 wire precision | Varies, often thinner and less precise
US Support | Impact-USA Concierge Support: onsite setup, US tech support, US parts | Factory support only or limited US presence
Ink System | Use Impact-USA or DuPont inks and keep your costs low. | Some systems require proprietary inks at premium pricing |
The Printhead is Just the Starting Point
The DTF market breaks down into two broad camps: consumer-grade machines that cut corners to hit a price point, and premium Japanese-engineered systems that deliver exceptional quality at a price most growing shops cannot justify. The real question is: why should you have to choose between quality and affordability?
Many systems on the market, from mass-produced consumer-grade machines to premiumpriced offerings with well-known brand names, use comparable printhead technology. The gap shows up everywhere else: in the frame that holds calibration under continuous load, in the motion components that determine long-term accuracy, and in the support infrastructure that determines how quickly you get back in production when something needs attention.
Fedar is a purpose-built OEM manufacturer with decades of industrial printing experience. Every component decision in the FD70 and FD1808 was made to solve a specific problem, not to hit a price point.
04 | Impact-USA Concierge Support: What You're Really Buying

05 | The Bottom Line: Total Cost of Ownership
The price of a printer is what you pay once. The cost of a printer is what you pay every day you own it. When evaluating systems, consider:
Downtime cost: What does one hour of lost production cost your shop?
Maintenance frequency: How often are you replacing components, and at what cost?
Print consistency: Inconsistent output means reprints, waste, and unhappy customers.
Support access: Can you reach a knowledgeable US technician the same day?
Consumable flexibility: Are you locked into expensive proprietary inks and film?
Fedar's combination of heavy-gauge steel frames, Japanese and German motion components, genuine Epson printheads, and Impact-USA Concierge Support delivers industrial-grade performance that competes with the best systems on the market, without the premium price tag that comes with them.
